Dr. Fasano’s research focus examines the composition of and changes in the gastrointestinal microbiota, along with environmental factors, to help determine triggers and biomarkers related to inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and possible links between gluten-related disorders and conditions such as autism spectrum disorder in certain subgroups of patients.

Dr. Fasano co-authored “Gut Feelings: The Microbiome and Our Health” (MIT Press;2021)and “Gluten Freedom: The Nation's Leading Expert Offers the Essential Guide to a Healthy, Gluten-Free Lifestyle” (Wiley; 2014). Proceeds from the sales of both books help to fund Dr. Fasano’s research at the Center for Celiac Research and Treatment, Massachusetts General Hospital.
